Pangalengan Tea Estate

Sight Seeing

Pangalengan Tea Estate

Pangalengan, on a 2-hour drive south, you find the heart of Bandung tea culture existing from the past colonial era. It’s a sloping tea landscape between 1400 & 2000m height waves as far as you can see in certain positions there. “De Heeren van de thee” is a book by HELLA HAASENS. It’s about this area in colonial times, Gamboeng, named in +1880, the home of the family “van Kerkhoven” who developed that estate out of the jungle. This estate still stands, and you can walk in there. It’s a homestay as well, might you like.

Further on in this stunning landscape are the old colonial tea factories, still operating as they always were. Not much changed there, you might have a look inside.
